Hidden among the majestic mossy green plantations of the Sabie area in Mpumalanga lies the Fanie Botha Hiking Trail. It was one of the first officially established hiking routes in South Africa and signalled the start of an organised hiking culture in the country.

The trail takes hikers along the scenic Drakensberg escarpment between Sabie and Graskop, spoiling hikers with marvellous views and crystal-clear waterfalls like the landmarks of Mac Mac Falls and Lone Creek Falls.

Although there are slackpacking options available for this trail, the majority of hikers opt to carry their backpacks with all the necessities. Don’t be fooled by some of the shorter distances on some of the days, though, as the Fanie Botha Trail is meant to be a challenge.

Luckily, the Trail Food Company understands the importance of lightweight, nutritious, and convenient hiking food. Our dinner options include a delectable Mushroom Risotto, Beef & Barley Stew, and North African Couscous, all of which have been prepared by the Trail Food chef.

The best part of our dehydrated meals? You only need to add boiling water to the cook-in bags to have a hearty, substantial meal in minutes after a long day on the trail.

To make your meal prep even easier for a multi-day hike like the Fanie Botha Trail, have a look at our packs that include everything you might need to sustain your energy levels. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, coffee, and tea – you name it!

Now that you don’t have to worry about meal planning or food items weighing your bag down take a look at our Fanie Botha Hiking Trail Ultimate Guide with all the information you might need for this epic trail.
